Fly fishing is hard!
Have you ever tried fly fishing? Well I have and it is freaking hard. First you have to buy a new pole and reel. There are so many choices so I bought the cheaper rod and reel. Then there is the line and leader thing. That was no big deal it was kinda easy to pick them. The worse thing was the fly selection. There are truly thousands to choose from. After you make all those choices it is time to try to make a cast! Trust me when I tell you to find a nice open area to practice your casting!
My first time casting with a fly rod was in my backyard. It is pretty wide open so I thought I would be ok but I was wrong. I was told to kinda use the pole like a whip and keep letting line out going back and forth. Well it kinda worked but I really couldn’t put the fly were I wanted it to go. Instead I proceeded to hook my self or let it fly and land off to the side of were I wanted it to go. I continued to practice till I felt comfortable with doing this. Then off to the stream to catch some fish. Wrong! I swear I caught more trees and weeds then anything else. And when I did catch a fish I had a terrible time getting it in to the shore. The whole time my grandfather was laughing like crazy and telling me to keep trying and I would get better. Well he was right I did get better at it but I never really liked it. As they say it just isn’t my cup of tea! Since my grandfather passed I have never tried it since.I guess you could say that I am lazy like that because if I can’t pick something up in a short period of time I am over it!
I feel that is one of the great things about life is that we all are different but the same. I have some friends that love to fly fish and swear by it. If you get a chance to watch someone that can fly fish it is amazing how they can but that bait right were they want it. But for me I will stick to my regular rod and reel.
I would love to hear your opinion or thoughts about mine. If you want to leave it as a comment that is fine. Or you can email it to me at reelandsteel.com@gmail.com.
Also if you have a story that you would like to share as a guest blogger or pics you would like to post on the website email them to me also.
