How important is the storage of your guns?

There are a lot of things to consider when you are looking for a way to store your guns in your home. You need to consider if you want a nice wood cabinet, A gun safe, locking cases or maybe gun racks.

For me the biggest one was to make sure that the are stored in a safe way under a lock. I purchased a 24 gun safe recently and it was one of the best things I have ever done. They are a little costly but remember that your gun collection is worth far more than the safe. It wasn’t an easy choice of which one to get. There are digital locks or manual locks and key locks. My choice was the manual lock because I was worried about the digital locks and how they work. I am sure they work great but it was just my preference. Then there was the choice of getting one with fixed or movable shelves and configurations. I choose the one that had the movable configurations for the ability to change as I get more guns and other stuff I need to lock up. You will also find not all gun safes are fire rated. This is crazy not to have one that is fire rated. You can keep them safe but if a fire happens they are gone. So yes mine is fire rated. On the ones I looked at had just about the same type of locking bars which was one of the reason I wanted to get the safe in the first place. Not that my boy would ever touch them but I wanted to feel safe when he has friends over or we aren’t home. I have always stored them in a very nice gun cabinet before I bought the gun safe but as time has gone by I wasn’t feeling very safe with it. Even though I have trigger locks on all my guns it still worried me. There are more choices you can make but definetly check them out because some of the are very cheaply made like there price tag. Plus the gun safes today aren’t like the older ugly ones. Now they come in all different kind of finishes and colors.

My first gun cabinet is a work of art it is very nice looking but it wasn’t a very safe way to keep them. I still have some things in it like my black powder guns and airsoft guns but all my shotguns and rifles are in the safe. I really believe that into today’s world you really need to be extra cautious. Not like when I was growing up we never locked our doors or cars. Hell we use to leave our keys in the cars.

I guess it all come down to what you want to store your guns but think of it as an investment and I am sure you will make the right choice. Or like I have one cabinet for display and a gun safe for security. Check out a friends Custom Gun Cabinets by Bubba Menard they are stunning.
